Is your child testing you?

"Everyone's child test them. If you made some mistakes with your child in development years or as teenager, stop feeling bad about it. Own your mistakes, and move on."

An adult child who rebels

This is what happened during a conversation between two people. Two women were talking; one was having a tough time with her young adult child, and the other was trying to support the struggling mother.

Every day, parents experience conversations like this and challenging moments with their teenagers or young adults. All parents face tough times with their children, whether they are fifteen, twenty-two, or forty-five years old. This is because everyone desires to make their own decisions and pursue their own path.

As children grow older, they rarely seek advice from their parents. Sometimes, this is because the advice doesn't align with their religious or traditional moral values. Other times, regardless of age, they simply wish to follow their own path and accept the consequences of their actions.

This morning, I came across an article discussing ten things that adult children might not realize can make their parents feel unloved. One point mentioned was when adult children disregard their parents' advice, which can lead to parents feeling unloved. I was guilty of this in the past, believing that my approach was the only correct one. However, once I started heeding some of my parents' advice, I actually saw that their advice produced fruits of success.

Parenting is challenging, and we make errors because we ourselves might still be healing or because there isn't a definitive handbook to raise a child. Humans are complex, which can lead to a lot of frustration. We should seek grace from God and heed the woman's advice: "Own your mistakes and move on.".
