Knowing the right thing and not doing it

There are many reasons why people may know what the right course of action is, yet still choose not to follow it. Here is some reasons:

1. Emotional Factors

Emotions can heavily influence decision-making. Fear, anxiety, or stress may prevent someone from acting on what they know is right. People who suffer from depression most likely will make the choice not to do the thing that is right or helpful in their situation. Depression makes you feel dead inside, without energy and no will to do it either. You know that you need to do a certain thing the doctor has prescribed for your medical condition, yet you are so depressed that you choose not to do it.

2. Social Pressure

People may feel pressured to conform to the behavior of their peers or society, leading them to act against their better judgment. People want to be accepted, and thus we will do anything that is against our better judgment. We would rather find friends who don't judge us for being overweight or who don't say anything about our weight, even though we know how good it would be for our health to lose a few pounds. We know how unhappy we are when clothes don't fit, or when we need to run to the fitting rooms with hundreds of garments to find the one that fits comfortably. Still, we keep on telling ourselves and find groups where we aren't judged for how we look, to be accepted the way we are, knowing that we need to be healthier.

3. Lack of Confidence

Some may doubt their ability to carry out the right action effectively, leading to inaction. We sometimes do the wrong thing or make the wrong decision because we doubt. We doubt that what we wanted to do in the first place isn't going to work or won't work. We don't have faith.

4. Habitual Behavior

People often fall into routines or habits that may not align with what they know is right, making it difficult to change their behavior. Changing habits can take 21 days of consistently doing the same thing, but for some people, it might take longer. It's hard to change a habit, but it's also hard to stay in the same old ways that don't work.

Doing the right thing, which you know is right, will bring success in your life, not only physically but emotionally as well. When you get out of your comfort zone of doing the wrong things by doing the things you know are right, you will feel accomplished, and this boosts morale. It's hard to be different, but it's also hard to conform to this world. It's hard to change, but it's also hard to stay the same. Choose your hard. Do the right thing.
